The idea of a new mestiza, a hybrid identity, is not new but in the sense of Anzaldua it is as she deals with a coming together of ethnicity, culture, language, and sexuality. As teachers, it is important to know who are students are and important to understand their hybridity and how that can rise to the surface and translate into the work they produce for the class.
